The China National Intellectual Property Administration (the “CNIPA”) has been on a campaign to crack down on bad faith trade mark squatters for most of the last decade. For instance, the CNIPA published the Notification on Continuing to Strictly Crack Down on Bad Faith Registration of Trade Marks in March 2022, and the Guideline on the Procedures of Trade Mark Assignment in September 2023. Assignment of trade marks appears to be the latest focus of the CNIPA.
